The Gender Inclusive Housing Experience (GIHE) is one of several gender-inclusive housing options offered at Howard University. GIHE is intended for students who are interested in having a safe, inclusive, comfortable, and supportive community housing experience for people of all gender identities and expressions. This community provides open-gender housing. Open-gender housing refers to students choosing their roommate regardless of sex or gender. In order to participate in open-gender housing, you must opt-in.

Students who live in this community will be expected to contribute positively to the community by:

a. Offering support and encouragement for the living environment,
b. Respecting floor members’ different motivations for choosing this living option,
c. Embracing and learning from experiences different from one’s own,
d. Actively participating in community events, and
e. Abiding by all regulations as outlined in the Howard University Handbook (H-Book).
