Single Room Waitlist

Single Room Waitlist

The Office of Residence Life and University Housing recognizes that some residents prefer to reside in a single occupancy bedroom. However, due to the high demand for single rooms, these spaces are limited and may not be available during a student’s initial request.

Therefore, our office has created the Single Room Waitlist Request form, in order to offer students an opportunity to request a single bedroom on-campus as space becomes available. This waitlist will be available online and maintained throughout the academic year.

Single rooms are offered in most of the residence halls. Please view the list of available room types and the 2019-20 room rates.

All Howard University students who have a confirmed housing assignment for Fall 2019 and/or Spring 2020 are eligible to submit a request for a single room. Students can review their confirmed assignment online in StarRez.

Once you submit your request for a single room, the housing team will confirm your eligibility and contact you via email once a space becomes available. Please keep in mind the following:

  • Submitting an application does not guarantee that your request will be granted. All offers are based on availability.
  • Single room offers will be made in the order of each student’s assigned selection time during the Spring 2019 RSVP room selection process. If you did not participate in RSVP, offers will be made in the order in which your waitlist request was received.
  • Once a single room is offered (via e-mail), you will have 2-3 business days to accept. Offers will be emailed to your Bison Email account only.
  • Due to the difficulty in predicting where and when singles will become available, the Office of Residence Life & University Housing is unable to guarantee that your hall and specific single room type preference will be met.
  • If you do not accept your single space by the deadline or you decline the space offered to you, your name will be removed from the single room waitlist and you will need to reapply in order to be reconsidered for a similar space.
  • After you accept and have been assigned to a single, your new assignment will be available online in StarRez.
  • If you do not move by the specified date/time, your offer may be rescinded.
  • If you do not return the keys to your original room by the specified date/time, you will be billed for a room/suite lock change.
  • Your student account will be updated to reflect the prorated difference in room costs for the new assignment (i.e. the nightly rate). If you move to a more expensive room type, you will be responsible for those additional charges.
